DIAGNOSIS AND PYROTECHNICAL DEPOLLUTION

EXPLOSIVE REMNANTS OF WAR

  • War of 1870: About 1,000,000 shells used, more than half of them in the Paris region.

  • First World War: 1,455,000,000 shells fired along the 700 km front line, or about 15 million tons of metals and explosives. 10-30% of them would not have worked. 2 to 3% of this ammunition is chemical.

  • Second World War: 22% of the bombs dropped during the Second World War were dropped on France, i.e. around 600,000 tonnes and around 10% would not have worked. To which are added several million shells from June 44 to January 45.

In order to support building owners in understanding the pyrotechnic risk, the Syndicat des Métiers de la Dépollution Pyrotechnique (SMDPYRO) has created a Guide for public works operations, preliminary studies and soil depollution work likely to encounter munitions. unexploded (UXO) .
