HISTORICAL RESEARCH  PYROTECHNICS 

The starting point of any pyrotechnic operation is the search for historical data concerning the ammunition likely to be present on the site subject of future work.

This study must bring a precise analysis of the site object of the request by studying the various sources of possible pollution which are  :

• The War of 1870  ;

• The First World War (1914-1918)  ;

• The Second World War (1939-1945)  ;

• The training sites of the armed forces before, during or after these 3 conflicts  ;

• Active military sites  ;

• Past military sites  ;

• Any decontamination or removal of ammunition carried out on or in the immediate vicinity of the site  ;

• Areas of ammunition destruction following conflicts  ;

• Ammunition production sites.

This geographical and historical analysis must be associated with an analysis of potential pollutants, namely the type or types of ammunition liable to be found on the site, their possible depths of burial and possibly their locations (in particular in the case of bombardments of the Second World War).

At the end of this analysis, a clear conclusion is issued to the project owner as to the risk inherent in the interaction between the future operation of the site and the presence of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and/or explosive remnants of war (REG) present in the basement.
